Carolyn Barnes, Psy.D., LLC

Dr. Barnes completed her doctoral degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Therapy at The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Barnes completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Mental Health Assessment and Triage Unit of the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department in San Antonio, Texas. Her post-doctoral fellowship was completed in a private practice setting in Athens, Georgia.

A native Georgian, Dr. Barnes chose Athens to begin her private practice. She has been a Christian for over 40 years and while she enjoys working with all perspective clients, Dr. Barnes enjoys any opportunity to integrate spirituality into her therapeutic work with clients who chose to do so, as she believes that spiritual integration enhances the modes of therapy. Dr. Barnes has clinical experience working in a wide assortment of treatment settings such as a community mental health clinic, a public school setting, an adolescent inpatient psychiatric facility, an adult correctional facility, a juvenile probation department, and private practice. While providing individual and group therapy, Dr. Barnes does problem-solving oriented play therapy with children and adolescents who have ADHD, self-esteem issues, and emotional behavioral issues. She also does cognitive behavioral therapy with children, adolescents, college students, and adults who suffer from depression, anxiety, personality disorders, relationship issues, adjustment disorders, trauma, and abuse.

Dr. Barnes is also available for consultations, and welcomes the opportunity to present at workshops and retreats dealing with children, adult, and family issues.
